Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday is a relatively recent phenomenon. As more and more companies have started selling items online they have realized that they can make money from the Thanksgiving sale crazyness.

So what is cyber Monday and what is so special about it?
The traditional sales run from 4 or 5am on the Friday after thanksgiving until Sunday. Most stores have different deals available on each day, they may also have door buster deals, night time deals and anything else they can think of to try and push us to buy.

Monday morning comes and everyone goes back to work. They have access to the Internet and of course because they are at work they have plenty of time to spend surfing for deals.

The beautiful thing is that just because it is a online phenomenon it doesn't mean that you have to buy computer items. Yes you are almost guaranteed that you will get a deal from Dell on cyber Monday if you are in the market for one of their computers or laptops but you will also see deals from places like Target and Walmart.

So what sort of deals can you expect for the Monday after thanksgiving sales?
The big brand names try and make sure the offers you see on Monday are different to the ones you see all over the weekend. There will of course be lots of electronic products as there are always customers looking for a new LCD TV at a great price but what else can you expect to see in the Cyber Monday Sales 2009?

  • Christmas presents - The stores know that plenty of Americans are hurting for money right now and are desperate to get christmas out of the way so they will be offering toys galore. The Nintendo Wii and Barbie House are two things that come to mind.
  • White Goods - Far to many of us are using washing machines, dryers and dishwashers that are past their sell by date. You can expect to see some bargain washer and dryer sets from places like Sears.
  • Digital Photo Frames - These were huge sellers last year and I expect them to be just as big for the 2009 thanksgiiving sales.
  • Large Items - I think that this year the shops will be doing deals on huge items that we only buy once every few years. Sofa's, leather loveseats and bedroom sets.
  • Something weird and wonderful - Every year I see items in the sales that I never would of thought of buying until I saw them advertised.

So keep an eye out for the cyber monday sales, buying online has many advantages,not least of which is that you don't have to line up in the cold at 4am!
